OMAHA, Neb. – McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom has announced the hire of Matt Giller as Creighton's next Associate Athletic Director/Assistant Vice President for Athletic Development.
Currently the Assistant Athletics Director for Development at Kansas State, Giller will start at Creighton on June 6th.
"I'm excited to welcome Matt and his family to Creighton and the Omaha community. Matt has an excellent track record having been successful in many roles at Kansas State," said Blossom. "He's a mission-driven fundraiser that can connect, engage and communicate the university and athletic department's shared goals to enhance support of the student-athlete experience."
Giller was part of a fundraising team that recorded the second-best year in K-State history in 2019, raising $44.4 million. Later that same year, he assisted in the launching of the $105 million Building Champions capital initiative, KSU's largest in athletics history. He managed the marketing, branding and strategic plan for the campaign launch, was responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of 85+ major gift donors for the project, and raised $8.4+ million of philanthropic dollars.
He's also been active in fundraising for the Vanier Family Football Complex & Phase 3B (2015-2016), Bill Snyder Family Stadium Capstone Campaign (2017) and the Baseball & Soccer Facility Campaign (2019). In total, more than $250 million of facility projects have taken place in Manhattan since 2015. Giller also oversees two of K-State's largest out-of-state alumni cities, Dallas and Denver.
"My family and I are truly grateful to be joining the Bluejay family," said Giller. "We are excited to get to Omaha and meet the student-athletes, coaches, staff and great supporters and help them build upon the success that Creighton has attained. I am so appreciative of the relationships and friendships I have built during my time at Kansas State. Those are lifelong relationships and I'm eager for the opportunities to build new ones here in Omaha."
Giller helped relaunch K-State's Athletics Varsity K Club in May 2015 after 42 years and has been responsible for the communication, marketing and strategy for engaging with former student-athletes. He's also managed all aspects of the Annual Fund, including the branding, communication, marketing, soliciting and donor retention strategies, and oversaw all premium seating in Bill Snyder Family Stadium (Football), Bramlage Coliseum (M/W Basketball) and Tointon Family Stadium (Baseball).
A four-year baseball letterwinner at Kansas State from 2009-12, Giller has been on the fast track within the Wildcat Athletic Department over the past decade since starting as graduate assistant at K-State in the summer of 2012. He advanced to Assistant Director of Development (2014), Director of Development (2017) and Sr. Director of Development (2020) before being elevated to his current role of Assistant AD of Development in October of 2020.
While a student, Giller was an eight-time member of the Big 12 Commissioners Honor Roll and a 2012 recipient of Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship. He was also a two-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 (2010, 2012) pick and the winner of the Big 12 Chick-fil-A Community of Champions Award (2012). The Manhattan, Kan., native earned his Bachelor of Business Admin. degree in December of 2011 and his Master of Business Admin. in May of 2014.
