Talented wing plays for Oak Hill Academy
OMAHA, Neb. -- Ty-Shon Alexander has signed a letter-of-intent to join the nationally-ranked Creighton men's basketball program beginning next fall.
Alexander, a 6-foot-4 guard from Charlotte, N.C., stars for Oak Hill (Va.) Academy. He averaged 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game last year for a team that went 45-1 and won the DICK'S Sporting Goods High School Nationals at Madison Square Garden. That team was ranked second in the final USA Today Super 25 Boys Basketball rankings.
Alexander shot 49.3 percent from the field and 42.4 percent behind the arc for coach Steve Smith's program, which has churned out NBA All-Stars such as Kevin Durant, Rajon Rondo and Carmelo Anthony over the years, among others.
"We are thrilled to add Ty-Shon to our program," said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. "He has competed at a high level at Oak Hill and with Team Charlotte on the AAU circuit. While he is a very gifted scorer, he also impacts the game in many other ways. His team first attitude and ability to stretch the defense with the three-point shot will be a perfect fit in our system."
Alexander is rated as the No. 64 player in his class by ESPN, No. 80 by both 247Sports and Rivals, and is a three-star recruit and the No. 34 shooting guard according to Scout.com. He is coached on the AAU circuit by former NBA guard Jeff McInnis, who played at Oak Hill before eventually enjoying an 11-year NBA career.
Last week Creighton inked Eudora (Kan.) native and top-100 prospect Mitch Ballock to a letter-of-intent.
Ranked No. 22 nationally, Creighton (1-0) hosts No. 9 Wisconsin on Tuesday night as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
