Senior guard led Creighton to two victories
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton guard Marcus Foster has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week after helping Creighton to a pair of wins last week. It's the second time this season that Foster has been honored (also Dec. 26, 2017), and fourth time in his Bluejay career (also Nov. 28, 2016 and Dec. 26, 2016).
Foster averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game last week, making 19-of-35 field goal attempts (54.3%), including 9-of-17 three-pointers (52.9%), and draining 5-of-6 free throws (83.3%).
Â
The senior began his week with 24 points and tied his career-high with eight rebounds in Tuesday's 68-63 win at St. John's. He also added two assists and a steal.
Â
Foster closed his week with 28 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 85-77 win over Georgetown on Saturday. The Wichita Falls, Texas, native had nine of his 20 first-half points during a 16-0 run to close the first half that gave the Bluejays the lead for good.
Â
Foster is the first Bluejay with three consecutive games of 20+ points since Doug McDermott did in 2013-14 and now averages a team-best 19.9 points per contest.
Creighton (17-5, 7-3 BIG EAST) next heads to Philadelphia, Pa., to meet top-ranked Villanova (20-1, 7-1 BIG EAST). The game will tip at 5:31 p.m. and air on KOZN (1620 AM) and FS1.
