Daniel Lopez-Rey Named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Galapagar, Spain, native finished weekend 4-0
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's tennis sophomore Daniel Lopez-Rey earned BIG EAST Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Lopez-Rey finished the past weekend 4-0 while helping the Bluejays spilt a pair of matches against UMKC and North Dakota. The Galapagar, Spain native, claimed a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles with Mac Mease to clinch the doubles point against UMKC before winning in straight-sets at No. 5 singles against the Roos. Lopez-Rey also paired with Mease for a 6-3 win against the No. 2 doubles pair from North Dakota and earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles as the Bluejays downed the Fighting Hawks 5-2.
The sophomore leads the Bluejays with three singles victories, and is a perfect 4-0 during doubles action while pairing up with Mease. Overall, Lopez-Rey is 7-3 combined in singles and doubles matches during the 2018 dual season.
Lopez-Rey is the first Creighton men's tennis athlete to be named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week since Alex Koca earned similar honors on March 16, 2016.Â
Creighton (2-4) returns to the courts on Friday at Iowa. Doubles action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Iowa.Â
