Carda Claims BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

New York, N.Y. -- Bluejay freshman Temi Carda claimed her first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, Feb. 5. Carda came off the bench in the Bluejays' challenging road swing at NR/RV DePaul and RV/RV Marquette to average 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists. Temi shot 47.4% from the field and 60.0% from long range.
The rookie scored in double figures in both tilts, including 13 points and five rebounds in Sunday's crucial win over the Golden Eagles. Despite the reserve role, Carda was third on the team in scoring last week and tied for the top average by a rookie in the BIG EAST.
Another Bluejay collecting accolades this week was junior Audrey Faber, who was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Faber averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds 3.5 assists and knocked down 44.8 percent from the field, highlighted by scoring the game-winning and-one at Marquette on Sunday.
Carda, Faber and the rest of the Bluejays face off with Creighton's travel partner Providence this week in Rhode Island on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11 am (CT).

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Mart'e Grays, DePaul, Jr., F
Grays led the Blue Demons to a 3-0 week to claim the sole lead in the conference standings. The junior forward averaged 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, .513 shooting and a .438 clip from deep in wins over RV/RV Marquette, Creighton and Providence. Grays' week was highlighted by a 25-point night against the Bluejays on Friday, who had entered the contest as winners of three straight. Grays currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 16.5 per game over 12 league contests. This marks her first career BIG EAST Player of the Week certificate.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Allazia Blockton, Marquette, Jr., G
Blockton averaged 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists, reaching the 20-point mark in both weekend games against Providence and Creighton. The junior shot .457 on the three-game week, including 8-13 against the Friars.
Mary Gedaka, Villanova, So., F
In the Wildcats' lone game of the week, Gedaka scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds and swatted two shots, making 7-of-12 attempts from the field to top Georgetown on Saturday.
Alisha Kebbe, St. John's, So., G
In a 2-0 weekend for the Red Storm, Kebbe averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and .625 shooting in victories over Butler and Xavier. The sophomore was one board shy of a double-double against the Musketeers on Sunday with 15 points and nine boards.
Shadeen Samuels, Seton Hall, So., G/F
In a 2-0 weekend for the Pirates, Samuels averaged a double-double of 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, highlighted by 22-point, 11-rebound outing in Sunday's win over visiting Butler.
