Baseball Opens Four Game Week At Kansas State, Then Hosts Shockers This Weekend

Omaha, Neb. -- After their 14th road contest to open the 2018 season on Tuesday, the Creighton Baseball team will open its home schedule with a three-game set against its former Missouri Valley rival on Friday, March 16.

Scouting the Bluejays

The Bluejays closed a 3-1 week by taking a weekend series from Minnesota, claiming the first two games of the series by identical scores of 7-3.
Creighton opens their home slate of games on Friday as the Bluejays welcome their former Missouri Valley rival Wichita State. The Shockers and Bluejays begin the series at 6:30 pm.
The Bluejays continue to be a potent offense during the early season, led by leadoff man Clark Brinkman hitting .411 at the dish.

The Shockers will be completing the trifecta of D1 schools in the state of Nebraska, taking all three from UNO and two of three versus the Huskers earlier this season.

Bluejay Battery of Tapani & Emodi Sweep BIG EAST Baseball Weekly Honors
The Creighton battery of pitcher Ryan Tapani and catcher Michael Emodi were both honored Monday, March 12 for helping the Bluejays to a 3-1 week. Tapani earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Emodi was named Player of the Week.

Tapani Shines in Front of Family During Series Opener at Minnesota
Playing in front of his home state crowd, senior pitcher Ryan Tapani shined with a career best seven-inning appearance. In his seven innings of work, Tapani had 10 strikeouts, threw 102 pitches, allowed just one run for a 1.29 ERA. In the 7-3 Creighton victory, Tapani allowed just six hits, one for extra bases.
The performance was a little more special for Ryan as his father, Kevin, was in the stands. His dad pitched for the Minnesota Twins for seven seasons (1989-95) and also pitched for the
Los Angeles Dodgers (1995), the Chicago White Sox (1996) and the Chicago Cubs (1997-2001).
Emodi Displays Raw Power with Five Blasts in Three Games
Creighton junior Michael Emodi launched three home runs during a 3-1 week for the Jays. He finished the week with a .375 average (6-for-16) with four extra base hits, a .412 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Emodi went 1-for-4 against Arkansas Pine Bluff in midweek action, scoring twice with two RBI and a homer. On Friday, in the opener against Minnesota the catcher went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI and a two home runs. He followed that up with a two-hit Saturday, one a double. Emodi crossed the plate once.
Bluejays Buying into the both Speed and the Long Ball in 2018
During the first 13 games of 2018, Creighton has already launched eight home runs and swiped 25 bags.
Leading the power surge is Emodi with five. The nine blasts are the third highest through 13 games since Creighton crushed 13 home runs in its first 13 games in 2010 and 14 long balls in 2009.
On the base paths Creighton's 25 steals are the most since the Bluejays snagged 43 bags in the first 13.
