Battery of Tapani & Emodi Sweep BIG EAST Baseball Weekly Honors

New York, N.Y. – The Creighton battery of pitcher Ryan Tapani and catcher Michael Emodi were both honored Monday, March 12 for helping the Bluejays to a 3-1 week. Tapani earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Emodi was named Player of the Week.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Michael Emodi, Creighton, Jr., C (Omaha, Neb.)
Creighton junior Michael Emodi launched three home runs during a 3-1 week for the Jays. He finished the week with a .375 average (6-for-16) with four extra base hits, a .412 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Emodi went 1-for-4 against Arkansas Pine Bluff in midweek action, scoring twice with two RBI and a homer. On Friday, in the opener against Minnesota the catcher went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI and a two home runs. He followed that up with a two-hit Saturday, one a double. Emodi crossed the plate once.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Tapani, Creighton, Sr., SP (Wayzata, Minn.)
Playing in front of his home state crowd, senior pitcher Ryan Tapani shined with a career best seven-inning appearance. In his seven innings of work, Tapani had 10 strikeouts, threw 102 pitches, allowed just one run for a 1.29 ERA. In the 7-3 Creighton victory, Tapani allowed just six hits, one for extra bases.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Garrett Christman, Butler, Sr., 3B (Noblesville, Ind.)
Christman hit .400 (4-for-10) in a 2-1 week for the Butler Bulldogs. His stat line included one double, one RBI, two runs and three walks. Hi had a .530 on-base percentage. In the 8-7 win against Fort Wayne, he went a perfect 3-for-3.
Connor Schultz, Butler, Fr., RHP (Cedar Falls, Iowa)
Schultz came out of the bullpen to pitch 4.2 innings and shut down Fort Wayne for an eventual 8-7 win for Butler. He allowed no runs in 60 pitches. He struck out four batters and allowed just one hit.
Brent Killam, Georgetown, So., LHP (Nokomis, Fla.)
Made two appearances, one start for the win. For the week, he pitched 8.0 innings with a 2.25 ERA allowing seven hits, two runs (one earned), struck out seven and walked none. In his 4-1 win against Saint Joseph's, he stayed in six innings and struck out the side once.
Eddie McCabe, Georgetown, Fr., SS (Norwalk, Conn.)
In a five-game week for the Hoyas, McCabe batted 10-for-21 (.476) percentage. McCabe got a hit in all five games and crossed the plate in four of them with four runs, five RBI, two doubles and two walks. Georgetown went 1-4 to close out the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Matt Woods, St. John's, Jr., OF (Sicklerville, N.J.)
Woods batted .444 (4-for-9) in an 0-3 week for St. John's against Kansas. His stat line included three extra base hits, one home run and one walk. He posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
