Creighton ends seven match winning streak
LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The Creighton women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Wyoming on Sunday at the University of Wyoming Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Bluejays moved to 12-5 this season, while the Cowgirls snapped Creighton's seven match winning streak.
Wyoming claimed the doubles point with victories at each of the top doubles positions.
The Cowgirls gained a 2-0 advantage with a straight-sets win at No. 4 singles before Erin Epperson earned Creighton's first victory of the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position.
Host Wyoming won in three sets at the top singles spot and claimed the overall match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.
Michaela Henne earned a 6-4 win in the opening set of No. 2 singles, but fell 6-3 in the second and 7-5 in the deciding third set.
Celine Massereau clinched Creighton's second victory of the day with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at No. 6.
"We had a nice run of wins against quality teams but it came to an end today," head coach Tom Lilly said. "I thought we played pretty well in spurts considering the match yesterday and playing at 7,000 feet, which is very difficult.
"We will continue to improve, but the credit goes to Wyoming for winning the bigger points today."
Creighton returns to the courts on April 6 at Marquette.
