Week 4 edition of the 2018 class for women's soccer
As the transition from National Signing Day to pre-season looms, we take a look into the future Bluejays that will step onto the pitch this coming fall. Each week an in-depth background as well as thoughts from Creighton Head Coach Ross Paule will prepare fans for the members of the 2018 signing class.
Â
March 6 – Keenan Terrell and Michaela Weist
March 13 – Aline Reinkober and Nela Cizkova
March 20 – Aida Kardovic
March 28 – Morgan Szarka and Emma Roemer
April 3 – Francesca Frericks and Ansley Atkinson
Joining the Bluejays from Aurora, Colorado is Morgan Szarka. Applying her trade in the same club (CO Storm) as current Bluejay Haylee Blach, the 5'7 signee brings versatility to the team, capable of playing at a multitude of positions.
Â
"Morgan is a versatile player because she is hard working, physically strong and fit," said head coach Ross Paule. "She does very well as a box to box midfielder because of her ability to put herself in good positions to win the ball back defensively."
Â
With the depth in midfield, Paule expects her to potentially make an impression at the right back spot as well. Her success in the classroom, as well as her four years lettering for her Grandview Wolves soccer team and all-conference and all-state honors gives Paule the impression that Morgan can be more than just a member of the team.
Â
"Morgan is a leader in her club team because she is known to do whatever is needed to help the team win," appreciated Paule. Â "I believe she could be a leader in our team too with her great attitude and work ethic."
Â
Joining Szarka is Wisconsin native Emma Roemer. Hailing from the town of Oregon, Emma is a 5'6 midfielder/defender who can also play in a variety of roles. Emma joins Creighton coming from the FC Wisconsin Eclipse club team as well as a successful ECNL program.
Â
"Throughout the recruiting process Emma showed us her desire and determination to be part of this program," Paule said. "Emma has the ability to compete, challenge and push our current and future players in both the defense and midfield positions.
Â
Conference champions in her junior year at Oregon High School, the Panthers also recorded a 3rd place finish in the state championships. She also received a 2nd Team All-Conference nod in what would be her only high school campaign. Also renowned for her hard work in the classroom, Paule believes Roemer will establish herself into the Bluejay side quickly.
Â
"I expect Emma to come in and lead by her examples on the field and gain the respect of her teammates from her work ethic and the person she is," praised Paule. "We are excited to welcome her to the family and without doubt, we know that every day we will get the best from Emma and this is key in continuing to take the steps forward and become the program we desire to be."
