Omaha, Neb. -- The second weekend of BIG EAST play send Creighton Baseball to Queens, N.Y. as the Bluejays face off with the preseason favorite St. John's in a critical conference series this weekend.

Series Preview
Two squads that have developed a budding rivalry in the first four seasons as BIG EAST foes, St. John's and Creighton have battled 15 times in the last four seasons. The two teams have tangled in each of the last three BIG EAST Tournaments, with the Red Storm take the BIG EAST Tournament Championship at TD Ameritrade in 2015.
The Bluejays are one of just two teams to take a series from the Red Storm at Jack Kaiser in the last five years. Creighton did so in 2014 and again in 2016. The other team to accomplish that was Connecticut earlier this season.
Scouting the Bluejays (2018: 20-7, 1-1 BIG EAST)
Creighton's offense surged into high gear as the weather began to climb in Omaha this week. In victories over South Dakota State and Kansas the Bluejays scored a combined 23 runs, the highest two-game total of the season.
One Bluejay specifically hitting his stride is sophomore Will Robertson. The Missouri native went 3-for-4 with six RBI in Creighton's 14-11 win over Kansas on Wednesday.
As a team Creighton comes to Queens hitting .268 as a team, led by junior Clark Brinkman (.351), Robertson (.340) and junior Michael Emodi (.306).
On the bump the Bluejays bring a 4.39 team ERA. One of the most pleasant surprises of the season has been Friday starter Ryan Tapani. The Minnesota native is 5-0 with a 1.78 ERA. His last outing came on Saturday against Butler. It was the first time this season the Bluejays did not post a victory when Ryan pitched. In addition, it was the first time Tapani allowed more than one earned run.

Creighton leads the series with the Red Storm, 9-7. The Bluejays are 4-2 at Jack Kaiser Stadium in two trips there are members of the BIG EAST.

The Red Storm also have been strong at the plate as a unit, entering the weekend with a .294 average. Four starters boast an average of .330, led by John Valente's .371.
The Red Storm, however, have been plagued by inconsistency. St. John's opened the season with seven straight wins, then dropped seven of eight.They enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak.

Creighton and Kansas combined to set a TD Ameritrade Park record for runs scored in a single game in the Bluejays' 14-11 win on April 11.
The 25 combined runs surpassed the previous mark of 24 runs, set last season in the Bluejays' 19-5 win over Utah Valley on March 19, 2017.
Overpowering the Power 5
Creighton is now a combined 6-1 this season against Nebraska (1-0), Minnesota (2-1), Kansas State (2-0), and Kansas (1-0). This marks the most regular season wins for the Bluejays over power conference opponents since 2000.
Omaha Marathon Comes Up a Little Short
In Creighton's 14-11 victory over Kansas, the outing was 15 minutes short of an NCAA record for the longest nine-inning game, taking 3:35 to complete. The longest 9-inning Creighton game in TD Ameritrade Park Omaha history, it fell just short to a 9-3 victory for Arizona over Oklahoma State on June 24, 2016 in the CWS, which lasted 3:50.
