Four straight points from the Bluejays sealed a home result for the Bluejays
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team outlasted Saint Louis, 5-2, at Hanscom Tennis Courts in Omaha on Friday afternoon.
The Bluejays moved to 13-7 on the year.
In doubles play, the Bluejays found a lead behind the duo of Darby Rosette and Kendra Lavallee. Their 6-3 win at the No. 3 position to give the Creighton a 1-0 before Claire Embree and Erin Epperson combined for a 6-4 win at No. 2 to give the Bluejays the doubles point. The match at No. 1 was suspended at a 5-4 Bluejay advantage for Ashley Ishimura and Michaela Henne to get singles action underway.
Ishimura kicked off singles play scoring a pair of 6-0 wins at the No. 1 spot. Rosette followed next to bring the lead to 3-0, after a 6-3, 6-2 decision at the No. 4. Rallying from an early 3-0 deficit in the second set, Henne grinded out a 6-4, 7-5 decision to clinch the contest for the Bluejays.
Saint Louis grabbed two consolation victories at No. 3 and No. 5 before Laura Higueras (No. 6) finished the contest with a 7-5, 6-0 result to cap off a successful afternoon for the Bluejays.
"We played solid doubles and squeaked out some big points," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Ashley got us on the board quickly and has been playing very well. I like the way we are competing; we don't have any lackadaisical matches."
Creighton wraps up its regular season on Sunday, April 22 when the Bluejays host to Doane. Doubles action is slated to start at 1 pm.
