Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball squad fell to Georgetown, 8-1, on Sunday, April 29 to drop the series to the Hoyas.
Creighton fell to 25-13 on the season and 4-7 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown moved to 17-24 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Bluejays missed chances to score in each of the first two innings as Creighton left the bases loaded in the first. Junior Ryan Mantle opened the second with a triple into left field, but was stranded 90 from home.
Bluejay starter Preston Church kept Georgetown at bay with three perfect frames to open the game.
Church surrendered his first two hits in the fourth, but worked out of trouble.
Finally in the fifth with two down, the Hoyas patience yielded consecutive walks and Jake Bernstein lifted a two-run triple to right. An RBI single from Ryan Davis made it 3-0 Georgetown in the fifth.
Georgetown tacked on five insurance runs off the Creighton bullpen in the eight, while the Bluejays pushed across a run in the bottom half of the inning on a bases loaded walk to junior Clark Brinkman.
Georgetown started Jeremiah Burke earned the win (1-0) with six innings of scoreless ball. Meanwhile Church took the loss (5-3), allowing three runs on four hits in six innings.
