Baseball Drops Series Finale with Cal, 7-2

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball team closed its 2018 regular season with a 7-2 loss to the California Golden Bears on Saturday, May 19.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 34-16 in 2018, while Cal moved to 30-21.
The Golden Bears got on scoreboard first with a double, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI groundout in the second inning. Cal took advantage of three walks from Bluejay starter Preston Church in the fourth to push its edge to 3-0.
Creighton responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth as junior Clark Brinkman was hit by a pitch, then two outs later junior Michael Emodi blasted his ninth home run of the season to left field.
The score remained 3-2 until the seventh when Cal added an insurance run thanks to a leadoff double from Andrew Vaughn. The powerful bat tacked on three more with a his 23rd home run of the season in the ninth to give the Golden Bears the 7-2 margin.
Church took the loss (5-5) for Creighton, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in three innings. Cal reliever Arman Sabouri claimed the win (5-2) with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
