Kendall gives men's tennis its second consecutive season with an Academic All-American
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's tennis' Brooks Kendall earned a spot on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I At-Large Second Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced on Thursday.
Kendall claimed a perfect 4.0 GPA while studying financial analysis. He also earned 11 singles wins and 13 doubles victories on his way to All-BIG EAST Second Team honors following the 2018 season as the Bluejays tallied double-digit wins (10-10) for the fifth consecutive season.
The Prairie Village, Kansas native, gives the Bluejay men's tennis program a CoSIDA Academic All-America for a second consecutive season as Harrison Lang made the All-America Second Team in 2017. Kendall is also the third athlete from the Creighton men's or women's tennis programs -- each under the direction of 21-year head coach Tom Lilly -- to be honored as an Academic All-American.
Kendall joins Creighton's Sam Crowley (Softball), Tyler Clement (Men's Basketball) and Jaali Winters (Volleyball) as individuals to earn Academic All-America status during the 2017-18 academic year. The Bluejays' total of four Academic All-Americans sets a new mark for the most in a single academic year. The previous Creighton-high was three in 2011-12 (Ethan Finlay, Brian Holt, Jace Peters -- all from men's soccer).
No less than 38 of the 45 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Men's At-Large Team have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 27 student-athletes --including Kendall -- maintaining a 4.00 GPA (or better) as either undergraduate or graduate students. The 17 members of the first team (which was expanded due to ties in the voting) have an average GPA of 4.01.
The at-large teams for the Google Cloud Academic All-America program include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as beach volleyball, bowling, field hockey and rowing for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.
