Spranger Signs Free Agent Deal with Seattle Mariners

Southpaw expected to pitch for Everett AquaSox next week
Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball saw it's fifth player from the 2018 season ink a deal to play at the next level as Grant Spranger signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners.
A left-handed reliever for the Bluejays during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Spranger came to Creighton from Southeaster Community College prior to the 2017 season. Grant appeared in 40 games for Creighton, including 28 contests last season. He posted a 1-1 record with 35 strikeouts in 25.1 innings in 2018, allowing just seven walks. Spranger closed his senior campaign with a strong final month, allowing just one hit in seven appearances in the month of May. During that stretch Spranger tossed 8.1 innings, including a career-high 3.2 frames against Seton Hall on May 5. He recorded 13 strikeouts during the stretch and walked just two.
Spranger is reporting to the Mariners Arizona home in Peoria for a physical, where he will have a chance to touch base with another former Bluejay as David Gerber (2014-17) is doing some rehab work with Seattle's rookie league squad. Grant is quickly expected to begin his pro career with the Everett AquaSox, Seattle's short season squad in Everett, Washington.
Including Spranger, Creighton now has 20 players active at the professional level (one in MLB, 18 in MILB and one in Korea).
