Frequently Asked Questions
Our premier-level teams are our most competitive teams. They play competitively at local, regional and national levels, travel for tournaments and compete against other universities. Student-athletes in premier-level club sports have a coach who manages training, scheduling and more, while the other clubs are led by a president, who is also a player. Because of the high level of competition, team membership is recruitment-based.
Tryouts and recruitment vary by sport. Choose your sport to find details on how to join.
A lot of students join multiple club teams, and it all depends on the expectations of individual teams. Talk to team leaders or the coach and consider how practice and competition schedules might overlap.
Fees vary by team and are affected by things like the number of participants, the travel schedule and more.
Clubs recognize that students are students first. You can expect to commit around 6 hours of time a week while you’re in season. Teams usually practice 2-4 times per week.
Travel is dependent on the sport and its schedule. Common travel locations include Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin. Some teams will travel further based on post-season eligibility. Teams may travel as far as Florida or California.
Depending on the sport, premier club sports team members are provided with a variety of equipment needed to participate. Home and away uniforms, practice uniforms and team apparel will be provided to all players on the roster.
Teams will travel in university-provided vans, charter bus or airplane, depending on the competition location. Players will be responsible for any travel to and from scheduled practices.
Although it’s rare, club teams may be invited to scrimmage their NCAA counterpart.
Decisions to move from club to NCAA level competition are at the discretion of the coach of the respective NCAA team. Students are not guaranteed an opportunity to meet with the coach of the NCAA team.
