Brian Holt Named MVC Defensive Player of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. - Senior Brian Holt of the Creighton men's soccer team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his play in the Bluejays' 1-0 season-opening win at Denver on Saturday. The four-year starting goalkeeper made seven saves in recording his 28th career clean sheet, setting the MVC record for career shutouts.

In addition to his conference honor, both CollegeSoccerNews.com and TopDrawerSoccer.com named the Creighton Prep graduate to their National Teams of the Week.

Holt, making his 56th start and appearance for the Bluejays, made two saves in the first half of CU's match at Denver to keep the match scoreless. The Bluejays scored in the 65th minute and Holt was able to make that goal stand as he moved past Bradley's Chris Dunsheath (27.5) for the MVC career record with 28 shutouts. The seven saves for Holt were the most he had made in a match since he stopped a career-high eight at California as a freshman in 2008.

Holt and the nationally-ranked Bluejays return to the pitch at UMKC on Wednesday at 7 pm.
