Men's Golf Takes 17th in First Meet Under Cornell

.Nate Vontz opened his junior campaign as Creighton's top finisher in each round and tied for 42nd place overall. He shot a 74 in the first round, improved that by one on Monday afternoon and wrapped up his 2019-20 debut with an even-par 70 on Tuesday. It was the Lincoln native's third career round of 70 or better, and fifth at par or better.

Tucket Knaak led Creighton with a 75.8 scoring average per round as a freshman and made a slight improvement to open his sophomore campaign. Knaak sandwiched rounds of 74 and 72 with an 80 to tie for 74th place with a 226 total.

Creighton's lone senior on the team, Andrew McCormick, tied for 79th place. He shot rounds of 74, 73 and 80 for a 227 aggregate.

Twin brothers Ethan Olson and Jack Olson rounded out the Blueay line-up in their collegiate debuts. Ethan tied for 89th place following loops of 77, 78 and 78 for a 233 total, while Jack followed up an opening-round 75 with an 83 and 82.

Host Colorado State fired a tournament-record 285 in the second round and finished with an 831 total to win by 14 shots over runner-up Wyoming. UTEP's Oskar Ambrosius finished with a 9-under par 201 for a six-shot victory over three competitors. Fort Collins Country Club hosted the event, which measured 7,121 yards and featured a par-70 layout. The tournament featured 17 teams and 96 entrants.

Creighton returns to the course on Sept. 23-24 at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational in Madison, Ill.
