Sam Crowley Named To Google Cloud Academic All-District VII Softball Team, Selected By CoSIDA

Crowley honored for second consecutive season by CoSIDA
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton softball senior outfielder Sam Crowley earned a spot on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District VII Softball First Team, selected by CoSIDA the organization announced on Thursday morning.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
This year marks the second consecutive season Crowley has received recognition from CoSIDA, as she also made the 2017 All-District VII First Team. Crowley is the first Bluejay softball player to be recognized in consecutive years by CoSIDA since Tara Oltman earned Academic All-America status three straight years (2008, 2009, 2010).Â
Crowley, a recent selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, leads the Bluejays and ranks second in the BIG EAST in batting average (.402), and holds the second-best slugging percentage in the league (.641). The Green Bay, Wisconsin native is also second on the team in hits (47), runs scored (29) and RBIs. Additionally, she leads Division I in sacrifice hits per game (0.36), with a BIG EAST-best 15 sac bunts in 39 games played (all starts). Defensively, the senior has not committed an error during 58 chances in center field.Â
In the classroom, Crowley claimed a 3.94 GPA in neuroscience. She also earned selection to Creighton's Dean's List each semester at Creighton.Â
Following graduation and the completion of her playing career at Creighton, Crowley plans on attending Minnesota State in Mankato for a master's in sport and exercise psychology.
Crowley is one of two BIG EAST softball student-athletes listed on the Academic All-District teams.Â
Creighton (27-14) opens play at the BIG EAST Softball Championship presented by Jeep on Friday. The second-seeded Bluejays will play third-seeded St. John's at 3 p.m. at the Ballpark at Rosemont in Rosemont, Illinois.
