The 1991 Creighton baseball team was inducted into the Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame during a banquet at D.J. Sokol Arena on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
The 1991 baseball squad is the first team to be inducted into the Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame.
Under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Jim Hendry, Creighton advanced to the 1991 College World Series for the first and only time in school history and finished with a program-best 51 wins (51-22). The Bluejays went 2-2 at the CWS in front of their home fans at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The team led the country and set a Creighton-record with a .355 batting average. The Bluejays also broke and still hold school records in runs (667), hits (904), RBI (611), doubles (184), triples (60), home runs (107), total bases (1,529) and slugging percentage (.601).
Scott Stahoviak earned National Player of the Year from the American Baseball Coaches Association, MVC Player of the Year honors and first-team All-American accolades after leading the Bluejays with a .449 batting average. Stahoviak holds single-season school records for hits (120), runs (87), total bases (199) and on-base percentage (.600). Mike Heathcott won a school-record 15 games and logged a program-best 132 innings to lead the 1991 pitching staff.
Six players from the 1991 team went on to play in the major leagues: Stahoviak, Heathcott, Dax Jones, Chad McConnell, Alan Benes and Kimera Bartee.
