Dick Harvey was a member of the men's basketball team from 1956-60. Harvey ranks 26th on Creighton's all-time scoring list with 1,172 points in 88 games. Harvey was an outstanding basketball player at Creighton, leading the team in scoring during his junior and senior years. Known for his hook shot, Harvey was the second leading scorer in the Midwest during his senior year. He also earned an honorable mention for the college Catholic All-American. He was featured in the 1961 edition of "Memories of My Altar Boy Days" as one of 11 top Catholic athletes. He attended Creighton Prep from 1952 to 1956.
He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Creighton in 1960 and went on to Iowa State, where he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1962.
Harvey was a soft-spoken man who was very active in the community. Harvey served on many boards, including the board of trustees at Boys Town, Christ the King Church Educational Trust, and the Serra Club of Omaha. He was elected president of the Douglas County Bank & Trust Company advisory board in 1976.
