John Trautman played basketball at Creighton from 1921-25. He led the Bluejays to three conference championships and a 42-9 record during his time at Creighton. Trautman received All-Conference three times. While later earning his Doctor of Medicine degree, John coached basketball and track and directed the intramural programs.
