Marissa (Janning) Murphy is responsible for a number of firsts in the storied history of Creighton women's basketball. The Watertown, Minn., native and 2013 MVC Freshman of the Year became the program's first Freshman All-American (2013), first WBCA All-American (2014) first BIG EAST Player of the Year (2014) and recipient of the first BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award (2015). She was a three-time First Team All-Conference choice for the Bluejays, when she scored 1,934 points (4th in CU history), dished out 507 assists (2nd) and made 267 three-pointers (3rd) while establishing program records with 136 games played and 4,401 minutes played. Murphy arrived at Creighton after earning six varsity letters in basketball at Watertown-Mayer High School, where she scored 3,587 points and was named Minnesota Miss Basketball in 2012. Still a competitive athlete, Murphy completed the Boston Marathon in under four hours earlier this year. Now a resident of Oklahoma, she married former Bluejay baseball player Brennan Murphy in 2020.
