Playing under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Jim Hendry, Stahoviak led the Bluejays to the pinnacle of college baseball in 1991 during his third and final year at Creighton. Stahoviak was named National Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association while also earning top league honors from the Missouri Valley Conference. Stahoviak hit .449 with 26 doubles, 74 RBI, 120 hits and 87 runs while pacing the top offense in school history.
Stahoviak led the MVC in hitting his final two seasons, hitting .449 with 26 doubles as a sophomore. He earned all-MVC plaudits and was also named to the all-Midwest Regional team. Stahoviak’s Creighton career began in 1989 as he earned Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball.
Stahoviak was a first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins, drafted 27th overall, in 1991. He made his Major League debut on Sept. 10, 1993. He played 344 games over portions of five seasons with the Twins at the major league level.
Stahoviak and his wife, Susan, have a son Michael and daughter Emily. They reside in Chicago.
