Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw With No. 5 Clemson

The Bluejays fell behind 1-0 after knocking a ball into their own net in the 18th minute. Creighton evened the match with a converted penalty kick by senior Tyler Stansberry in the 41st minute. Stansberry was able to pound in the shot after freshman Jeff Thayer was taken down in the box.
The match went into half tied at one. Michael Brooks put the Tigers ahead again in the 65th minute. Clemson could hold the lead for only four minutes, as the Tigers returned the Bluejays a favor by putting a ball in the back of their own net in the 69th minute.
The contest was as even as its final 2-2 result would indicate, with the Jays owning a slight 6-5 edge in shots and both teams whistled for 17 fouls apiece.

The exhibition format allowed the teams to forego an overtime procedure and skip to penalty kicks to determine a tournament champion. The Jays prevailed 3-1. Allen was solid in goal for the Bluejays, stopping five shots in 90 minutes on Friday night before playing the first half in Sunday's tilt. The Jays wrapped up the exhibition season 1-0-1 and will now prepare for a difficult regular-season opening weekend at Notre Dame. The Bluejays open the year next Friday against No. 12 Indiana and then face the host 15th-ranked Fighting Irish next Sunday.
