The Marchese Golf Classic For Women's Athletics
Betty Marchese was a pioneer for women's athletics. As one of the best known amateur golfers in Omaha since the 1940's, Betty paved the way for those who followed. As a competitor, she won four city championships, one state championship and seven state runner-up titles. Marchese, who died of cancer in December, 1994 at the age of 69, was also the founder of the Women's Golf Association and served as president of the Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Sam Marchese, her five children ? CU men's and women's golf coach Debbie Conry, Susan Marchese-Billmeyer, Cathy Rush, Tim Marchese and Barb Marchese ? and 12 grandchildren.
Betty was the ultimate role model for all those associated with women's athletics and she continues to serve as an inspiration to excellence. For those reasons, Creighton University Athletics is proud name this annual women's athletics fund-raising event in Betty Marchese's honor.
The annual event will be held in the summer of 2004 (date and location to be announced). For more information on the Marchese Golf Classic For Women's Athletics, including the purchasing of tickets to the banquet which is held the night of the event, contact CU Athletics at (402) 280-2720
