The shutout was Creighton's (10-1-2, 2-0-1 MVC) 10th in 13 matches this season, moving within one of the school single-season record. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Nick Goldreich made his collegiate debut Tuesday, stopping four shots for the shutout. The Bluejays out-shot the Bears (4-7-4, 1-1-1 MVC) 21-6 on the night as Creighton moved its road unbeaten streak to 12 matches (9-0-3) since the beginning of last season.
Seth Sinovic led all players with three shots on goal for the Bluejays, while both Jeff Thayer and Nick O'Neill managed three shots, two on goal, in the match.
“In a lot of ways I felt like we played some of our best soccer tonight,” said Creighton head coach Bob Warming after his team's second draw of the season. “We had a lot of good combinations and moved the ball really well. It was just one of those nights where we were kind of unlucky to not come away with a four or five-nothing victory.”
Warming talked about his decision to give Goldreich the start.
“I wanted to give Nick a chance to get some game experience,” said Warming, who has three redshirt freshman goalkeepers on his roster. “I thought he did a great job, he kicked the ball well and communicated to his defense great. He had a good night.”
The Bluejays, who have been affected by injuries throughout the season, were short-handed because of a yellow card accumulation suspension Tuesday night. Freshman starter Greg Jordan, a major reason for Creighton's defensive success this season, sat out Tuesday after receiving his fifth yellow card in the Jays' previous game.
Creighton now takes 10 days off before returning to game action against Drake on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Bluejays host the Bulldogs on Senior Day at Morrison Stadium, as the teams will kickoff at 2 p.m. in Creighton's only home afternoon match of the season.
