More offseason news and honors for the Creighton men's soccer team continue to roll in. Bluejay assistant coach Jason Mims has been honored by College Soccer News as one of the top assistant coaches in college soccer. Former Bluejay and Omaha native Tony Odorisio has signed a professional contract in the Finnish Premier Division with FC KooTeePee of Kotka, Finland.
Mims completed his seventh season on the Creighton sidelines in 2007, helping the Bluejays to their 16th straight NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays won their second consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title in 2007, advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and finished 12-3-5. In addition to his coaching duties at Creighton, Mims has also guided his club teams to five Nebraska state championships.
Odorisio, a graduate of Omaha Skutt Catholic, played at Creighton from 2003-06. The gifted defender was an MVC all-freshman team honoree in 2003 and earned all-conference honors in 2004 and 2006. As a rookie he started 17 of the 22 matches he played in and helped the Bluejay defense rank 19th in the NCAA in goals against average and post nine shutouts.
Odorisio is the second former Bluejay to sign a professional contract in Europe this month, as goalkeeper Matt Allen earlier inked a three-year deal to play in Norway. Odorisio will also become the second former Bluejay in two years to play professionally in Finland, as native Pietari Holopainen is a current member of FC Haka.
