
Women's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight With 7-0 Triumph Over Western Illinois

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton made quick work of Western Illinois, as the Jays won every set en route to a 7-0 shutout of the Leathernecks, Saturday evening at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Jays opened the match by winning all three doubles matches. Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader topped Marcela Brandao and Yana Meinert at No. 1, 8-4 to start the evening.
Anna Kirshenbaum and Kelsey Schmidt posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Stephanie Baumer and Jill Furlong. Tess Reddin and Mary Pat McMullan, who was seeing her first doubles action of the spring, polished off a 3-0 mark with an 8-2 triumph over Kate Kennedy and Amy Unzicker.
The domination continued at singles as every Bluejay won in straight sets. Reddin started things with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Brandao at No. 1 and Kirshenbaum put up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Unzicker at No. 2.
Kirshenbaum has been the hottest of all the women's players, as she has now won five straight singles matches and four straight at No. 2 doubles with Schmidt.
Schmidt continued the Jay dominance with a 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 over Furlong, and Lauren Mastro made quick work of Kate Kennedy, with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
The dual was rounded out at No. 5 and 6 with the final two Jay wins. Lindsey Erickson topped Meinert 6-2, 6-4 and McMullan swept Claire Griffin 6-2, 6-2.
Creighton (5-4) will be off until spring break when they head south to Orlando for four matches. The first will be on March 8 against Sacred Heart. Start time is yet to be determined.
