OMAHA, Neb. - The NCAA released its first RPI report of the season on Tuesday, with the Creighton men's soccer team ranked No. 3 in the initial 2011 Ratings Percentage Index. The Bluejays moved to sixth in the latest NSCAA poll released on Tuesday. On Wednesday, All-American forward Ethan Finlay was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.
Creighton (11-2-0, 0-1-0 MVC) ranks third in the first RPI based on its strong schedule, which has already featured five teams in the RPI top 33 and will feature two more in that group over the next 10 days. The Bluejays have already faced Maryland (2), UC Irvine (3), Indiana (19), Wisconsin (22) and Providence (33) and posted a 4-1-0 record against those five teams, while they still have Bradley (25) and Drake (28) remaining on the schedule.
The Bluejays slipped just two spots in the latest NSCAA poll, falling from fourth to sixth after losing 1-0 at Missouri State last week. CU bounced back to post a 3-1 win over then seventh-ranked UC Irvine to keep a high ranking. The Bluejays continue to rank as the top team in the NSCAA Midwest Region rankings, where they have been for all eight weeks of the season.
Finlay, who on Monday became the first player in MVC history to be named the MVC Offensive Player of the Week four times in one season, earned his third scholar-athlete nod from the league office. The senior finance major carries a 3.41 cumulative grade-point average. Finlay tallied the first hat trick by a Bluejay since 2004 in CU's 3-1 win over UC Irvine last Saturday.
