
Volleyball Sweeps Redbirds For First Time

NORMAL, Ill. -- The Creighton Volleyball team posted its first sweep in 41 all-time meetings with Illinois State as the Jays claimed 25-18, 25-21, 25-17 win at Redbird Arena on Friday night.
Creighton improved to 16-3 on the year and is 7-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Redbirds dropped to 10-8 and are now 4-4 in Valley play.
Creighton won the first set, never trailing to win by a 25-18 score. Leah McNary topped the Jays with four kills, including one on set point. Megan Bober dished nine assists and had eight digs in the opening frame, as CU hit .282 and recorded 22 digs.
Creighton won the second set, 25-21. The Jays trailed 8-7 early before a 5-0 run with Kate Elman at the service line. McNary had a kill on set point once again to close out the pesky Redbirds. The Jays had 22 more digs in the second set, led by seven from Elman.
Creighton raced to a 9-1 lead in the third set and never trailed en route to a 25-17 victory.
Jereb had 10 kills and 10 digs in the return to her home state. Bober recorded 31 assists and 14 digs, and Elman tallied 22 digs overall. CU finished with 38 kills, six aces, 74 digs and 10 blocks on .195 hitting.
ISU was paced by LeighAnn Hranka's 10 kills on .400 hitting. Kaitlyn Early had a double-double for ISU with 20 assists and 14 digs. The Redbirds were paced by 33 kills, two aces, 67 digs and six blocks on .064 hitting.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday with a 6 pm Central match at Indiana State. That match will not be broadcast.
