ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Alex Bolowich of the Creighton men's soccer team was selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Bolowich was honored for his performance during the period of August 27-September 2.
Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
Bolowich, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was named to the Ameritas Classic Championship All-Tournament team, while backstopping the Bluejays to a draw with seventh-ranked Akron (1-1 on August 31) and a victory over Rutgers (3-0 on September 2).
Bolowich, who has a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average in communications, allowed one goal in 200 combined minutes against Akron and Rutgers. In fact, he held Akron to just one goal on 15 shots, despite the Zips being one of the top scoring teams in the NCAA over the past three seasons.
This is the first time that Bolowich has earned the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
