SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Powered by the seventh goal of the season from sophomore Kirstyn Corder, the Creighton women's soccer team defeated Seton Hall 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The win lifted the Bluejays to 9-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in BIG EAST action. Seton Hall fell to 4-7-2 on the season and 2-2-0 in BIG EAST play.
The first half was a defensive battle as the two squads combined for just seven shots (Seton Hall-4, Creighton-3) in the wet and misty conditions.
Despite the limited chances, Bluejay freshman goalkeeper Danielle Rice needed a 1-on-1 save to keep the match scoreless in the half. Rice's save came at 14:02 as she denied Seton Hall senior Ashley Clarke with a diving grab.
Both teams raised the intensity in the second half, belting 17 shot attempts (Seton Hall - 9, Creighton - 8). Creighton took advantage of the increased scoring chances in the 63rd minute as Corder blasted a centering pass from junior Madelyn Buckner into the back of the net at 62:17. It was Corder's team leading seventh goal of the season.
Seton Hall had two strong chances to tie up the match, but Rice stopped both chances via 1-on-1 stops. Rice went on to complete her fourth shutout of the season, nabbing five saves. Seton Hall's Jennifer Pettigrew took the loss with three saves.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 as the Jays host DePaul at 7 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
