Men's Tennis Concludes Road Trip by Winning Two Out of Three Matches

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Creighton men's tennis team concluded its Florida road swing by taking two of three midweek matches, all ending in a 5-2 decision.
Creighton (5-4) knocked off Robert Morris (2-9) in a 5-2 final. The Bluejays then defeated Wesleyan (0-4) 5-2 before dropping a 5-2 contest to Valparaiso (9-5) in suburban Orlando this week.
Senior Sean Mathison and freshman Quinn Dippel led the Bluejays with a perfect midweek record of 3-0 at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles positions, respectively. Mathison won three matches in straight sets surrendering 17 games to opponents. Dippel claimed a pair of matches in straight stanzas and clinched a crucial three-set win to give Creighton its team match point over Wesleyan.
CU sophomore Elliott Baker and freshman Anthony Rauschenbach each posted a 2-1 midweek record. At No. 3 single, Baker swept a pair of three-set matches before falling in straight sets to Valparaiso. At the No. 6 position, Rauschenbach gave up just four games in a pair of straight-set victories and lost an extended three-set match to Valparaiso at 14-12 in a third-set superbreaker.
Freshman Brandon Lee went 1-2 on the week at the No. 4 slot with a three-set win over Wesleyan. Senior Ryan Norman dropped a tough three-set match against RMU before a pair of straight-set downfalls to end the week at the top spot.
Creighton won the doubles point just once in the three-match set. The Bluejays won two of nine doubles contests in the trio of matches.
Creighton returns to action on March 20 when it plays host to Hastings in a midweek match.
