
Herbers' Second-Half Goal Gives Creighton 1-0 Win at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa - The No. 9 Creighton men's soccer team edged Drake 1-0 at the Cownie Soccer Complex Stadium Tuesday night.
CU sophomore Fabian Herbers scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year on a header in the 66th minute. Senior Jose Ribas sent in the pass from the left side to notch his third assist of the year. The goal would hold up as the Jays earned their seventh non-conference win of the season.
The Bluejays earned their fourth straight win to improve to 9-1-1 overall. Drake dropped to 2-7-2 with the loss.
Creighton's best scoring chances in the first stanza came just 15 minutes into the match as senior Sean Kim's shot ricocheted off the DU left post. Junior Timo Pitter was there to control the rebound but drilled a shot off the middle of the crossbar.
The Bluejays led the Bulldogs 7-4 in shots and 2-1 in shots on goal in the first half.
In the second half both teams were more active on the offensive end. CU outpaced Drake 16-12 on shots in the match and 5-2 on corners but the shots on goal were even at 7-7.
Creighton goalkeeper Connor Sparrow played all 90 minutes in goal and made a season-high seven saves in the win. He improved to 9-1-1 with the victory.
No. 9 Creighton battles another set of Bulldogs when they host BIG EAST foe Butler inside Morrison Stadium on Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT.
