No. 10 Men?s Soccer Wins 2-1 at DePaul

CHICAGO – The No. 10 Creighton men's soccer gave up an early goal to DePaul but came back to defeat the Blue Demons 2-1 at Wish Field in Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
After an early goal by DePaul, Creighton sophomore Fabian Herbers scored his team-leading ninth goal and junior Mike Paye scored his first career goal at CU to give the Bluejays the victory. With the win the Jays secured a top-four seed in the six-team BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship later this month.
Creighton (13-2-2, 6-1-1 BIG EAST) surrendered its first goal to an opponent before halftime this year as DePaul (4-9-4, 1-5-2 BIG EAST) took an early 1-0 lead at the 3:05 mark.
The Bluejays responded with an unassisted goal by Herbers in the 17th minute to knot the match at 1-1. The contest remained tied through halftime. Creighton led in shot attempts 11-4 and in corner kicks 2-0 at the break.
Paye scored the deciding goal from the left side about eight yards out in the 51st minute for the Jays on assists from Herbers and junior Timo Pitter.
Junior Connor Sparrow played all 90 minutes in net while making three saves for Creighton and improved to 13-2-2 on the year.
With the win Creighton moves into first place in the BIG EAST at 6-1-1 with 19 points pending the result of the No. 11 Providence at Butler match to be played on Sunday. PC entered the weekend in first place with 17 points at 5-0-2.
The Jays' control their own destiny for a regular season BIG EAST title when they host Providence at 7 p.m. on Friday, for Senior Night at Morrison Stadium.
