Series with Providence
The Bluejays and Friars have met three times, including twice in 2013-14. Creighton has claimed victories in each meeting.
Scouting Providence (4-13, 1-5 BIG EAST)
The Friars have dropped six straight games and are expected to continue to be without leading scorer Tori Rule when Creighton comes to town on Friday.
Playing without Rule as well as third leading scorer Sarah Beal, the Friars pushed BIG EAST leader Seton Hall to the brink on Sunday. Providence led through the majority of the game, but gave way (68-67) in the final 12 seconds.
Providence has a tendency to be loose with the basketball, committing 26 turnovers against Seton Hall and 19 in the preceding game against Georgetown (Jan. 9).
Conversely the Friars also force their share of turnovers, averaging 8.0 steals per game.
Keys to the Game w/Providence:
- Execute Defensively: Creighton has struggled on defense this season and the St. John's was a microcosm of that. The Red Storm hit 17-of-23 shots in the second half against the Bluejays. Creighton must tighten up their defense.
- Take care of the ball: Providence will pressure the basketball as much as possible. With eight steals per game, the Friars want to cause chaos.
- Get Janning going early: Junior Marissa Janning has struggled to find her rhythm this season as the Bluejays. It is important she gets into the game early.
