MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Powered by 28 points from senior Alexis Akin-Otiko, the Creighton women's basketball team defeated Marquette 93-75 on Sunday, Jan. 25.
The win evened the Bluejays record at 10-10 on the season and 3-6 in BIG EAST play. Marquette, meanwhile, fell to 4-16 overall and 0-9 in conference action.
Trailing by a point (35-34) coming out of the locker room, the Bluejays returned to the floor on a mission. Akin-Otiko was flawless from the field in the second-half (7-of-7) as the Bluejays dropped a season-high 59 points on Marquette to earn the win.

Up 59-48 moments later, the Bluejays delivered another blow with 10 straight. Sophomore MC McGrory started the run with a pull-up jumper, but Akin-Otiko asserted herself with the next eight points to make it 69-48 with 10:13 left. The Golden Eagles got no closer than 14 (77-63) the rest of the way.
Creighton opened play in the first period with a 10-0 run, but Marquette battled back to take the lead at 20-19 with just under seven minutes to play. The Golden Eagles led by as must as six at 33-27 (3:19), but Akin Otiko closed the gap with back-to-back buckets. Following a Marquette bucket, sophomore Lauren Works drilled a three-pointer to send Creighton into halftime down just one at 35-34.
