Creighton and Villanova have met twice previously, both as foes in the BIG EAST Conference. The Wildcats have claimed both contests by a score of 2-0.
Sunday is the annual 'Pink Game'
Sunday's match will be the annual 'Pink Game' at Morrison Stadium to raise awareness of breast cancer. The Bluejays also played Villanova last season for the 'Pink Game.'
Last Time Out
Creighton fell 4-0 to defending BIG EAST champion DePaul in its first match at Morrison Stadium during the conference schedule.
The Bluejays kept the Blue Demons off the scoreboard for the majority of the first half, but Franny Cerny found the back of the net during the 38th minute.
The DePaul defense did not allow Creighton to record a shot in the first half while the Blue Demons fired off eight.
DePaul added three goals in the second half from Abby Reed (59'), Elise Wyatt (81') and Taylor Schissler (87') to secure the victory.
Creighton managed nine shots in the second half with its best scoring chance coming from Lauren Sullivan when she launched a shot high during the 61st minute.
Erin Scott made nine saves in a losing effort while DePaul's Alejandria Godinez earned her sixth shutout of the season without having to make a save.
Scouting Creighton (8-4-0, 0-2-0 BIG EAST)
Entering the season without a definite starter in the net, freshman Erin Scott grabbed the torch and has no intention of giving it up. Scott has delivered six clean sheets in 13 matches.
While Scott gets the statistical credit, head coach Ross Paule is quick to point out the efforts of Ylenia Sachau, McKynzie Dickman, Jill Richgels and Emma Braasch along the back line.
The defenders have also contributed on the
offensive end as Sachau is tied for the team lead with five goals. Richgels, meanwhile, leads the Bluejays with four assists.
One area coach Paule would like to get more production from is his forwards. Junior Lauren Sullivan appears to be getting on track, posting first multi-goal match of the season in the win over Northern Colorado.
Scouting Villanova (1-10-0, 0-2-0 BIG EAST)
Villanova enters Sunday's match at 1-10-0, but the record may be a bit misleading. Villanova has faced one of the tougher schedules in the BIG EAST Conference this season, facing #24 Ruters and #11 West Virginia in road contests. The Wildcats have played just three matches at home, going 0-3-0.
Villanova's lone win came over Denver, the preseason favorite to win the Summit League. The Wildcats claimed a 2-0 win at Denver on Sept. 18.
Four different players have scored for the Wildcats this season, while two others have tallied assists.
In goal the Wildcats have played two keepers. Junior Emma Meyer has played in eight matches, while sophomore Emily Harris has seen action in seven. Meyer has allowed 16 goals in 540 minutes, while Harris has given up 12 goals in 450 minutes.
