Series with Marquette
Creighton and Marquette have met 10 times previous. The Bluejays lead the overall series, 7-3. Creighton took the first meeting, 93-75, in Milwaukee on Jan. 25.
Scouting Marquette (8-19, 4-12 BIG EAST)
After opening BIG EAST play 0-10, Marquette has won four of its last six games. Among those victories was an upset win over Seton Hall, 73-70, on Feb. 15.
The Golden Eagles are starting to come together under first-year head coach Carolyn Kieger as four Marquette players reached double-figures in its win over Providence on Feb. 20.
Marquette is a very unique team as four of the five starters are graduate students (Bigica, Butler, Morse and Ojulu) as well as freshman Kenisha Bell.
Morse leads the Golden Eagles with 14.8 points per game, while Bell is averaging 14.2 ppg.
One area that the Golden Eagles have continued to struggle with is turning the ball over. Marquette averages 18.7 turnovers per game, over their last two wins Marquette has committed 39 turnovers.
Keys to the Game w/Marquette:
- Keep Marquette off the Free Throw line, specifically Morse: In the first meeting the Golden Eagles went to the charity stripe 32 times. Morse was a perfect 15-of-15.
- Handle pressure: Just as DePaul uses a press to cause chaos, Marquette had some success with the same strategy.
- Get Janning going early: Janning and Akin-Otiko combined for 55 points in the last meeting, but Marissa struggled against DePaul on Friday.
Senior Day
Sunday's contest with Marquette will mark the final home game for seniors Alexis Akin-Otiko, Sammy Jensen and Taylor Johnson. The three seniors will be honored following the game, with each player having an opportunity to speak from their heart. Head coach Jim Flanery will also speak following the game.
