
Women's Tennis Coasts to Victory at Western Illinois

MACOMB, Ill. – The Creighton women's tennis team coasted to a 6-1 victory over Western Illinois at the WIU Tennis Facility on Saturday afternoon.
Creighton (8-9) swept all but one point against Western Illinois (1-16). The Bluejays surrendered only one game in a pair of doubles wins and won four singles matches in straight sets.
All three Jays doubles tandems came away with a victory against the Leathernecks. CU senior Jennie Hartjes and freshman Darby Rosette won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles while sophomore Katherine Nelsen and junior Sam Anderson notched a 6-0 victory on court two. The senior duo of Liz Vermillion and Amanda Noonan earned a win by default at No. 3 doubles.
Nelsen, Noonan and Anderson won their singles matches in the middle of the singles lineup in straight sets. The trio of Jays did not surrender more than eight games to WIU in each of the three wins.
Vermillion also won her singles match by default at No. 6 singles while Hartjes wrapped up the contest with a three-set victory over WIU's Courtney Lubbers on court one. After dropping a tight first set in a tiebreaker 7-6, Hartjes won the second stanza 6-3. She claimed the final CU team point with a 10-4 victory in a third set superbreaker.
WIU claimed its only point on court three.
Creighton is back in action on April 7 at home against Doane.
