Omaha, Neb. - In front of the second largest crowd to witness a men's soccer match (6,453), the top-ranked Creighton men's soccer team defeated Tulsa 1-0 on Saturday, Sept. 19.
With the win Creighton moved to 6-0-0 on the season, while Tulsa fell to 3-3-1.
The Bluejays outshot Tulsa, 29-8, in the match, with the Jays' eventual game-winning goal coming just 52 seconds into the second half.
Freshman midfielder Joel Rydstrand sent a pass toward the left endline to reigning College Soccer News National Player of the Week Fabian Herbers. In full stride, Herbers grabbed the ball and centered it to Ricardo Perez for the score.
Perez's goal, which brought the season-best crowd to its feet, was his first of the year. Last season, the junior midfielder was the Jays' fourth-leading scorer with eight points (3G, 2A).
With the assist, Herbers has now notched at least one point in each of Creighton's first six matches.
For the sixth time in program history, Creighton has begun the season 6-0-0.
The top-ranked Bluejays return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 22 as Creighton hosts Northern Illinois at 7:00 pm.
