Team Effort Leads Men's Tennis To 7-0 Sweep Of North Dakota In Home Opener

Bluejays take five of six singles points in straight sets

OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Men's Tennis earned a commanding, 7-0 victory over North Dakota on Friday afternoon, with all seven Bluejays in action earning wins.
The Bluejays (1-2) began the match by capturing the doubles point with wins at all three doubles positions.
Brooks Kendall and Harrison Lang set the tone for Creighton, defeating North Dakota's Matt Hokanson and Joe Lee, 6-0, at No. 3 Doubles.
Quinn Dippel and Aaron Chalstrom then followed suit with a 6-2 win at the second spot, while Alex Koca and August Nysted earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 Doubles.
Dippel gave the Bluejays a 2-0 match advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 Singles. Koca then extended Creighton's match lead to 3-0 by defeating Ty Misialek, 6-2, 6-2, at the second singles position.
Lang clinched the win for the Bluejays, taking the No. 3 Singles spot, 6-2, 6-2 over Connor Oberle.
Chalstrom, Jake Glazer, and Kendall then put the finishing touches on the Bluejays' 7-0 victory by each earning wins at their respective singles positions.
"It was nice to get our first win of the season today," Creighton head coach Tom Lilly said. "We had some positions that struggled at times and needed to stay strong mentally to work through those. I was proud of the guys for fighting through those times and not folding."
Chalstrom's win at No. 4 Singles came via a super tiebreaker, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4, while Kendall outlasted Lee at the fifth singles spot, 7-5, 6-4. Glazer earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Eshan Varma at No. 6 Singles.
Creighton will be back in action Friday, Jan. 29 as the Bluejays host Illinois State at 7:00 p.m., inside Hanscom Tennis Center.
"We will need to step it up to be able to compete and give ourselves a shot at beating Illinois State next Friday night," Lilly said.
