Bluejays return home for Senior Day on Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Creighton women's soccer team lost 2-0 at Butler in a key BIG EAST Conference game on Thursday night in Indianapolis, Ind.
Butler improved to 10-5-2 with the victory and moved into sixth place in the BIG EAST standings with a 3-3-1 mark. Creighton dropped to seventh place with an 8-5-2 mark and is 3-4-0 in league play. The standings flip is important with just two games left in the regular-season, and only the top six teams in the BIG EAST standings reaching the league tournament at year's end.
Butler scored in the game's 10th minute, as Serina Kashimoto beat Bluejay goalkeeper McKenzie Meola on a penalty kick to make it 1-0. Kashimoto was fouled in the box by a Bluejay defender to lead to the PK, as Kashimoto scored from the spot for the fourth time this fall.
The score remained at the half, as BU outshot the Bluejays 10-5 in the opening 45 minutes.
The host Bulldogs tacked on an insurance goal with a score from Paige Monaghan in the 68th minute with a score from 10 yards out. Kyra Cooke and Brenna Pawelkowski were both credited with assists on the play.
Creighton had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks on the night, but Butler outshot CU 19-9 for the game. Meola recorded nine saves while playing all 90 minutes in net for Creighton.
Hannah Luedtke finished with four saves to record the shutout for Butler
Creighton returns to action on Sunday at Noon when it hosts Xavier on Senior Day at Morrison Stadium.
