Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team closed out the 2016 season with a 3-0 loss to No. 10 Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 28.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 9-6-2 on the season and 4-5-0 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown moved to 14-2-2 overall and 6-1-2 in conference play.
Entering the contest Creighton needed either a win or a loss by Butler to advance to the BIG EAST Tournament as the number six seed. One option closed early in the first half as Butler downed Xavier, 3-0, in Cincinnati. Still the Bluejays could qualify with a win over the 10th-ranked Hoyas.
Georgetown, however, was coming off a stinging loss to DePaul last Sunday. The ire of the Hoyas showed as Georgetown fired off 21 shots in the match.
The Hoyas broke through for a goal in the 23rd minute as Grace Damaska tallied her 12th of the season. The goal was set up by a pass from Amanda Carolan in the midfield to Rachel Corboz, who found Damaska along the right side. Damaska was able to loft a goal past Bluejay netminder McKenzie Meola from 20 yards away.
Georgetown added a second goal in the 37th minute as Taylor Pak pushed in a pass from a corner entry by Carson Nizialek.
The final goal of the match came in the second half as Corboz touched in a cross from Caitlin Farrel just in front of the Bluejay goal.
