#21 Volleyball Advances to BIG EAST Finals With Win Over Seton Hall

Bluejays roll to 19th straight win, seek third straight title on Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The No. 21 Creighton Volleyball team pushed its win streak to 19 with a 3-0 win over Seton Hall on Friday afternoon at the BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep, at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-19, 25-22.
Creighton improved to 25-6, while Seton Hall's season ends with a 16-16 record.
Creighton reeled off the first six points of the match, only to have the tables turned when Seton Hall answered with the next seven points. The Pirates led 9-8 before Creighton scored four straight on Taryn Kloth's serve to go ahead 12-9. The Bluejays would not trail again in the opening inning. Creighton led 18-16 before reeling off the final seven points of the frame to roll to a 25-18 victory. Jaali Winters (7) and Kloth (6) had 13 of CU's 14 kills as the Bluejays hit .229 to Seton Hall's .000. Brittany Witt had six of Creighton's 19 digs in the first set.
The Bluejays took a 2-0 lead into the intermission after a 25-19 win in the second set. The teams were deadlocked at 10 before an 8-3 spurt gave Creighton a five-point cushion. After Seton Hall closed within two at 21-19, Kirsten Bernthal Booth called timeout and helped her team gain the next four points to close out the set.
Creighton had to overcome a 20-18 deficit late in the third set, but got to even on a Winters ace to make it 20-all. Two kills and a block by Smith made it 23-20, and Creighton held on for the win, capping it off on Kloth's 10th kill.
Winters led CU with 12 kills, adding seven digs and two aces, while Kloth finished with 10 kills. Witt led the defense with a match-high 12 kills. Creighton had 39 kills, six aces, 39 digs and seven blocks on .235 hitting.
Seton Hall was led by nine kills each from Dominique Mason, Abby Thelen and Danielle Schroeder. Three-time BIG EAST Libero of the Year Tessa Fournier led the Prates with 11 digs. Seton Hall had 33 kills, no aces, 42 digs and four blocks and hit .120 as a unit.
With the win, Creighton advances to Saturday's championship match that will start at 1:30 pm Central and air on FS2. The Bluejays will play third-seeded Xavier, which defeated second-seeded Marquette in four sets in Friday's second semifinal. The Bluejays swept both matches with the Musketeers this season, and are 10-0 all-time against Xavier.
