Bluejays open regular-season next Saturday vs. Wichita State

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball team opened its 2016 season with a Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage on Friday evening at D.J. Sokol Arena. The White team overcame a first-set loss to win the match in four sets by a score of 17-25, 25-13, 25-21, 26-24.

All 15 women on the 2016 squad, as well as recent graduate Lizzy Stivers and volunteer assistant coach Micah Rhodes, appeared in the match. Nine of the women saw time playing for each squad as coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth used the match as a chance to test numerous line-up combinations.

The White Team led most stat categories, including kills (54-40), digs (57-43) and blocks (8-7), while Blue had a 5-3 edges in aces. The contest featured 22 ties and 11 lead changes.

Creighton will open the regular-season next Saturday, Aug. 27, when it meets Missouri Valley Conference favorite Wichita State in a 4 pm match at the Iowa State Challenge in Ames, Iowa.
