Klein Leads Men's Cross Country at Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Senior Eric Klein led the Creighton men's cross country team to a 28th-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday at Les Bolstead Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. The meet is annually one of the largest in the nation.

Klein traversed the 8K course in a time of 27:12.0 to place 164th overall in a field of 263 runners that finished the race. Klein's time was 68 seconds better than his clocking in the same race as a freshman in the fall of 2013.

Fellow senior Patrick Reinschmidt was CU's second-best finisher on the afternoon, taking 171st place with a clocking of 27:16.4. Reinschmidt's time was 26 seconds better than his clocking in the same race as a freshman in the fall of 2013.

Jacob Ohnstad's time of 27:34.9 was good enough to rank 193rd overall and as CU's third-best finisher on Saturday.

Rounding out the Bluejay harriers were freshman Chase Howard (244th; 28:35.9) and Nicholas Monkemeyer (262nd; 29:47.1). Sophomore Ty Medd also participated in the meet, but did not complete the race.

Colorado State junior Jerrell Mock won the race with a time of 25:06.4, finishing strong to edge out Minnesota's Matt Welch. Portland claimed the team title with 69 points to best a field of 29 teams. Five Pilots finished in the top-25 of the race, helping Portland hold off second-place Iowa State's 97 points.

Creighton will be off the next two weekends before returning to the course on Oct. 14 for the Bradley Pink Classic. It'll be CU's final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 28th.
