#16 Volleyball Buries Pirates in 3-0 Sweep

Creighton has now won 20 straight sets over Seton Hall
OMAHA, Neb. -- Taryn Kloth had 12 kills to lead three Bluejays in double-figures as No. 16 Creighton Volleyball swept Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon in CU's annual Pink Out match. Scores of the match were 25-19, 25-17, 25-11.
Creighton (16-5, 9-1 BIG EAST) regained sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST with the win, and has now won 20 straight sets against Seton Hall. The Pirates dropped to 13-11 (7-4 BIG EAST) with the setback.
A tense first set was tied at 17-all before consecutive attack errors by Seton Hall. A timeout led to a Pirates' sideout, but the frustration for the visitors would mount as CU pulled away after that. A kill from Marysa Wilkinson was followed by a yellow card being shown to SHU's Abby Thelen. A Samantha Bohnet ace then preceded a yellow card being issued to SHU coach Allison Yaeger. Creighton would close the set on an 8-2 run that seemed to demoralize the Pirates for the rest of the afternoon. Kloth had four kills in the first set to lead CU.
Creighton never trailed in the second set. A 3-0 run that included an ace on Alexa Roumeliotis' serve pushed CU's lead to 8-5. With CU leading 11-8, Jaali Winters authored a 7-0 run that featured an ace of her own. Creighton closed out the set on a kill from Winters, as the Bluejays hit .474 with 19 kills and just one error in 38 swings. Six different Bluejays had multiple kills in the second frame and Marysa Wilkinson added three block assists to help push CU's lead to 2-0 at the intermission.
The Bluejays hits .552 in the final set with 18 kills in 29 swings as Winters, Kloth and Megan Ballenger combined for 13 kills on 19 errorless swings. Witt and Dimke served during a 7-1 run to put CU in front 9-4, and Bohnet later served a 5-0 run as the lead was extended to 17-7. Back-up setter Sophia Coffey earned SHU's third yellow card of the day on a point the Pirates won to trim CU's lead to 18-9. A 6-0 run from Brittany Witt got CU to match point, and Kloth terminated a kill from Jaclyn Taylor to end the sweep in just 83 minutes.
Creighton finished with 51 kills, six aces, 46 digs and 7.0 blocks while limiting Seton Hall to 34 kills, no aces, 37 digs and 2.0 blocks. Creighton's .419 hitting percentage was the program's seventh-best mark in school history.
Creighton returns to action with consecutive matches at Providence next Friday (6 p.m. Central) and Saturday (4 p.m. Central).
