3/24/2017 2:45:00 PM | Men's Tennis
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team defeated South Dakota State 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays are now 7-8 this season with four regular-season matches remaining.
Wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions helped Creighton take the doubles point. Alex Koca and Mac Mease won 6-4 at No. 3, while Armando Gandini and Aaron Chalstrom picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 2.
Gandini and Chalstrom trailed 4-1 before storming back with five wins in five games to win their seventh consecutive doubles match and improve to 9-2 as a pair.
Gandini's 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles sealed the dual victory for the Bluejays.
Harrison Lang (No. 2), Brooks Kendall (No. 4), Jake Glazer (No.5) and Chalstrom (No. 6) also won in straight-sets.
Kendall owns a Creighton-best four-match winning streak, while Chalstrom has won five of his last six singles matches.
South Dakota State's lone victory came at No. 3 singles. The Jackrabbits won two tightly contested tie-breakers to win 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).
"The men's team won a tight doubles point with a nice come-from-behind victory at No. 2 after being down 1-4," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Our guys competed strong throughout the lineup, and to win all but one singles match was hopefully a confidence-builder for this team."
"It's a long season, and our best tennis is ahead of us."
Creighton's next match is at home on April 1 against Luther at 2 p.m.
